Katrina Rivera's Portfolio
Food Preparation, Presentation, and Preservation Design and Plan Stage
INTRODUCTION
We are going to create a hygienic product which is mango jam, we will be designing our logo which will be essential in selling our product. We will also be designing, create, come up with a procedure using our knowledge we gained. Our group will design and plan for a slogan which is something similar to KFC ‘finger likin good’. We will also be coming up with our ways of packaging we are currently planning on using a impulse seller which they are using in the place where they sell seafoods or meat or poultry. Some ways of marketing such as presenting it on monday assembly or through electronics such as sending them through school email and we would attach image which we can create using photoshop. Advertisement, which all companies use to tell people to but their products, we will come up with that as well.
TASK 1:
The product that we have all decided to make, is dried mango with or without chocolate. The reason why we say "with or without", is because the chocolate may be optional for those who prefer not to have it, we don't want to limit people. Not putting chocolate on ALL our mangoes is also cheaper, because then we don't waste money buying too much chocolate. Mangoes are also a natural delicacy in the Philippines, which is what makes it cheaper compared to fruits imported from other countries. By doing so, we are using the "buy low, sell high" method, which will end in us making more of a profit.
TASK 2:
Design Specifications:
-
They have to taste good.
-
They must have a fair price
-
The ingredients must be easy to acquire
-
The mango have to be fresh (including chocolate not expired)
-
Product must be attractive

Task 4:
Procedure:
-
Wash the mangoes and either peel or slice them.
-
Slice them into long strips about 1/4" thick.
-
Dehydrate at 135 degrees for about 14 hours.
The reason why we chose Katrina’s procedure because their is no frying and using oil which is very unhealthy. In this procedure it is very easy and healthy because all we use is dehydrator machine. We don’t use sugar, honey, oil, etc. And it is very easy to prepare this because their are only 3 steps unlike the other ones they are about 3-10 steps.
Logo:
We decided for our final logo to be this (attached left). Instead of choosing one out of two reasonable candidates, we decided to mix both of the designs and create ONE amazing design. We got the best features from both designs and mixed them.
Slogan:
‘Every Inch is Perfect’
We chose this because it sounds very luscious and very extravagant and everyone else as well as agreed to it.
Packaging:
The reason why I am assigned to do the packaging is because that is the last option. The reason why I chose jars to be our packaging method is because they are airtight, affordable and also it looks professional.
Marketing/Advertising:
We can make posters and place it all around the school. Present it in Assembly
After presenting it in assembly we will post the poster so that everyone can know the price, the food that we are selling and, the picture of our product. so that they will know how it looks like.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, we believe that the decisions we made were reasonable and justified. For procedure we chose that certain one, because it was the most simple and practical compared to the rest. For the logo we chose the attractive and also an object that will surely represent our business. For the packaging we chose the jars because it is sturdy, attractive and also the affordable one which would also allow our succulent dried mangoes to go through the preservation technique. For the marketing and advertising we chose posters and also presenting our product in the assembly because we know that if we do this action it would spread across Cebu International School and students, teacher and staff would talk about our products so that they would want it more. Finally we also chose the slogan “Every Inch is Perfect” because it sounds very luscious and very extravagant and everyone else as well as agreed to it. In conclusion we did very good as team since we divided our work equally among ourselves. The Design/ Plan stage is a very useful part of our dried mangoes making because once we are in the Creating Stage we would already know what to do, what are the ingredients and who we would sell it to. The reason why we picked dried mangoes is because mangoes is one of the affordable fruits in the Philippines since you can see mangoes everywhere such as the street markets and also supermarkets.
